Is Opening Presents On Christmas Night A Fun Idea?

We might try opening presents on Christmas Night (NOT Christmas Eve…the night of December 25) this year. I don’t know anyone that does it. We usually open presents on Christmas morning. Do you think it would make it better if we opened the presents on Christmas night? Or would it ruin the tradition of like running downstairs in the morning and opening your presents? Thanks.

I let my kids open up 1 gift on the Eve and the rest in the morning..why? because once when I was younger we begged our parents to open up all gifts on the Eve, when we got up the next morning my brother and I were sorta bummed and bored. It just didn’t seem like Christmas! As for opening up on Christmas day night would be kinda hard as seeing it’s a morning thing.
When you open a gift or a few gifts Christmas Eve, it leaves great anticipation for Christmas morning. Even if you saved all of your gifts till Christmas morning, you or whoever else received presents, would technically have all day to enjoy them.
A lot of people don’t have off the day after Christmas, so it would kind of be disappointing to wait all day on Christmas, finally open gifts at night, then have to get up the next day, or have the first day of enjoying your gifts AFTER Christmas, and not the day of. Make any sense?
I’d say sticking with tradition and opening gifts Christmas morning would be the most fun, but maybe everyone can save one gift to open later that night. That could be interesting.
I have never done this before myself, but I think it would be fun if you opened some of the gifts in the morning, and then saved the rest for Christmas night. That way, all the excitement won’t be over after the gifts are opened in the morning, and there is still something to look toward to in the evening. Then, basically, you are spreading out the fun and excitement of Christmas, which I think is a good idea.
Merry Christmas!!
I like what my daughter and her husband did when the kids were little. They opened one gift in the morning and then they played with that while dad cooked breakfast. Everyone got to eat just what they wanted, dad would cook whatever it took to please everyone. After breakfast they open a couple more and then stop to play with what they have. In the afternoon they either host on open house or they go to someone else’s. Home by early evening and space the rest of the presents out until it was also bedtime. My granddaughter would climb in her daddy’s lap and tell him it was the best Christmas ever.
Whatever tradition you start in your family will be treasured most likely. But if you do the “Santa” thing then it wouldn’t work so well to have presents that night since he has come and gone by morning
but if you don’t’ do Santa or you are just doing the ones from each other to each other then go for it! How fun!
Well, the first year you do this it may seem like it will ruin it, but you get used to it. Our family goes to midnight mass and when we come home it’s like 2am and so we open presents since it’s practically Christmas Day. I like rather to wait till after Midnight since Christ is now born and now it’s the appropriate time to open them. Opening them before midnight, (DEC 24) is sort of ruining it.
I only have one Christian uncle and he lets his kids open one gift on Christmas Eve, two gifts before Christmas Day Mass, and then the rest after lunch so they can play with them during the afternoon. It keeps them excited for much longer because the suspense never really ends.. Particularly seeing as the rest of my family is Jewish or Pagan, so the holiday doesn’t end with December 25th.
=P
It’s funny ’cause a friend at school just told me about her tradition recently. Real early in the morning, she opens her gifts from her dad. Then, later on in the day (after Christmas dinner) she finishes opening the rest of the family gifts.
I’ve always been one who rushes down the stairs at 5AM just to get a peek of the tree before my parents wake up. Then, around 5:45-6, we start opening stuff.
No matter what you decide to do, just remember that Christmas is the time to spend with family, and that no matter how you celebrate it, you should enjoy it. Merry Christmas!
not unless your having a party or opening on christmas eve 12am( which i guess makes it christmas day)
other than that..i would open them christmas morning
i would open them christmas eve 12am (not christmas day)(in about 24 hours). its fun and our family has a countdown. but i guess its more of a hispanic tradition.
I had to decide the same thing but instead I open it on Christmas Eve night at like 12. Don’t let tradition hold you back from doing what you want. Plus it’s funner to start your own personal tradition. Well it might not be fun if you have kids because they might not want to wait until then.
i like that idea of christmas night i wish we did that in my family
its so much nicer to enjoy a dinner and then have gifts to look forward to at night
after we open all of the gifts, its kind of a downer so i try 2 wait till the last minute to
well its a good idea if you don’t mind the wait and because if a little kid waits till night he’ll get tired. But if he gets a bad gift he can’t throw a tantrum without any energy. And by night time everyone has christmas spirit
I open Christmas presents on Christmas night …….
I think you should opent the presents from your parents on Christmas morning and any other gifts on Christmas night
Probably Ruining the Tradition
MORNING!!!
We open 1 present Christmas eve and the rest in the morning!
