Is The Silent Hill Franchise Good?

Okay, so I haven’t bought a good game in while, and I came across Silent Hill when I was looking for something to go as for Halloween (zombie nurse if you’re wondering). I was wondering if the games are any good?. I’m a girl so I love games that have females as the main characters like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil etc, so Silent Hill is pretty appealing. Is it a platform game? And does it have lots of little puzzles in it the way Tomb Raider does? I guess I’m basically just asking anyone who’s played it what their opinion of it was. Oh and I’d be playing on an Xbox 360/PS3 if that’s means anything. Thank you in advance!

I’m a girl too and have been playing the Silent Hill series since I was twelve. (: I can never get enough survival-horror games.
Honestly, though, I feel that the Silent Hill franchise has been starting to go downhill. A lot of the games are incredibly alike, and the newest ones aren’t exactly remarkable. I’d suggest starting with Silent Hill 2 on the PS2, where you play as James Sunderland, who is looking for his missing wife, Mary, in a town called Silent Hill. While playing as him, you encounter a monster called Pyramid Head, who is pretty notable in the Silent Hill series. I don’t really want to give away any plot details, but…you might be surprised. x:
Silent Hill 3 is considered a favorite by many, but I wasn’t exactly fond of it myself. You play as a female in this one, Heather, and keep having strange nightmares from time to time.
Silent Hill 4: The Room wasn’t well-liked by the SH fans, but I loved it. You play as Henry Townshend, who is trapped inside his apartment and finds a hole crushed into his bathroom wall that leads him to different, warped worlds as he watches a serial killer in action.
Silent Hill: Homecoming is on the Xbox 360, and, honestly, I liked it, but most didn’t. It’s a rehashing of a lot of the older games, and has a pretty predictable plot, but…hey. It’s still quite fun.
Most of the Silent Hill games consist of disturbing, horrific monsters coming after you at random and you fighting them off with melee weapons, such as leadpipes, knives, chainsaws, two by fours, etc. Usually, there is a character who is portrayed to be “good” who ends up being evil, and a search for someone missing.
I’d say definitely try the series out, starting with SH2 or Homecoming.

I have played all of them! The silent hill series are actually pretty amazing! As for the puzzles, YES, there are alot in the game and they are more confusing than Resident evil as they require alot of reading in the game!
Plus, the series are scary as hell! Never failed to scare me!
