What Is The Best Blueray Recorder And What Can You Record?

I am thinking of getting a blueray recorder. Would I be able to
record from the tv, 720p and 1080i shows? Also, is there any
thing I can record in 1080p

THE SAMSUNG BLU-RAY (AVAILABLE AT BEST BUY ETC.) HASN’T RECEIVED VERY GOOD REVIEWS. SONY’S MODEL IS AVAILABLE AT SONYSTYLE, FOUND IN MOST MALLS NOW A DAYS.
UNFORTUNATELY NONE RECORD. ONCE THEY DO RELEASE HOME RECORDERS MAKE SURE IT ACCEPTS A CABLE CARD TO AVOID HAVING TO TURN ON YOUR TV TO RECORD.
YOU’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO RECORD AT 1080p SINCE THE BROADCAST STANDARD IS 1080i!? THE ONLY SOURCE FOR 1080p WILL BE BLU-RAY AND HD-DVD. HDTV HAS BEEN ONE OF THE WORSE PRODUCT INTRODUCTIONS I’VE EVER SEEN! THE COMPANIES ARE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR FORMATS BEING ADOPTED. FROM THE BROADCAST STANDARD AND VIDEO INPUTS TO HI-DEF DISCS…THAN THE CONSUMER.
THERE ARE BLU-RAY BURNERS FOR SONY COMPUTERS, REPORTEDLY VERY SLOW. BUT THAT WON’T BE MUCH HELP TO THOSE OF US WHO WANT TO RECORD HI-DEF TV.
Blu-Ray is currently not available in the market yet, player nor recorder. Toshiba’s HD-DVD player has been available for a couple of months now with a retail price of $500. When the first Blu Ray player is released, it has been announced that it will be around $1000.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are two High Definition DVD formats (it’s like the VHS vs Betamax war of the 80’s). There are MAJOR differences between the two formats, they are NOT compatible with each other by any means and each one has a long list of supporters behind it. (what can be confusing is that both formats use a blue laser, but the discs are physically manufactured differently).
Only HD DVD has a player out. Blu Ray is not available yet. After the players come out, next will be disk drives for the computer. It will be some time before we see a recorder unit for the tv, and when it comes out it will most likely be rather expensive.
I own a video production company and we have been keeping a VERY CLOSE eye on these two formats for the past couple of years. My strongest advice at this point is to not invest in one of them yet. They are going to battle and one of them will eventually win and the last thing you want is to be stuck with a format that dies and disappears (ie: laserdisc).
I heavily recommend some research between the two formats. HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Here is a fantastic explanation of the two formats:

To answer your question, there is no best player to get right now because one is not available. The only one even close to being released is a model by Sony and it won’t be out for at least another two months.
