I am getting paid double time which will be £14, but my partner who’s normal pay is £6 is getting £20 an hour for christmas and new year, what do people usually get for working on these holidays ie double time, triple etc?

There is no ‘legal pay rate’ for christmas and the new year. The only pay rate that applies is the minimum pay. Now its up to your employer as to what he/she is able to pay. In these times of economic crisis An employee may want to work for as little as possible to help the employer thus helping to keep the company going after christmas.

There is no ‘legal’ rate. Pay rate enhancement for bank holiday working is at the discretion of the employer. The Charity i work for paid just the standard rate until last year. Now we get double time for Xmas day, but still standard rate for Boxing Day and New Years day.
ps My sons’ fiancee was paid £750 last year for working a 10 hour shift on both xmas day and boxing day. Nice.

It depends on who you work for. You should still get holiday pay along with either time and a half or double time which equates out to triple time at most.

your employer doesn`t need to pay you any more than basic rate, our staff are getting paid double time for 11 – 3 Christmas day and double time for new years eve.
