What Is Your Favorite Christmas Tradition?

Example: My husband and I give our 3 children a new pair of pajamas, a new ornament, and 1 meaningful (meaning, we don’t buy just to buy) surprise every year on Christmas Eve. Santa brings the rest.
I would just like to hear new ideas. My kids are all about tradition and love this one!

A favorite tradition that my parents and three other families (their friends) started when I was about 8 (I’m 27 now) was to have what we call “The Family Christmas”. The weekend before Christmas our families get together for dinner (we always have lasagna) and exchange gifts. Each family buys a small gift for each child and then a gift for each couple. I’m the oldest “child” and the youngest child is in 6th grade. Most of the kids now are in college, and we all look really forward to this tradition each year. Even though we’re not technically a family, I could not imagine not spending the holidays with all of them. I hope one day my children will be able to take part in this tradition.
Another tradition that my mom always did was to buy us each a book for Christmas, Easter, and our birthdays. I still have every book she’s given to me for these events.

I love spending the time with my family and then going to midnight mass (and that says a lot because I don’t really go to church any other time). I love watching the kids open gifts. I love the food, the lights, the snow…I love it all
Sadly, My husband is in the military and we live in Spain. I’m thankful that I have my husband with me, but I”m sad that its only the two of us. No kids, No Snow, No Family, No Midnight Mass….
    Just food and lights….
